Description

This narrowband image presents a series of objects, highlight by Barnard 147 at top right, located in the constellation of Cygnus at a declination of +35 degrees.  Barnard 147 is located about 1.5 degrees east of Sh2-101 (Tulip Nebula).

As seen in the mouseover, the image is filled with LBN and LDN nebulae – 9 of each type.

The tiny bright blue object near the top right edge is reflection nebula [RK68] 99.  The designation is from the obscure Rojkovskij / Kurchakov catalog from 1968.

My favorite part of the image is the half ring of reddish rays in the lower left quadrant.  I have never seen a shape like this before and I am not sure what it is, or what may have caused it.

The diverse colors here are caused by the varying densities of SII, HII, and OIII throughout the image.  I primarily used a SHO color palette, later adding RGB stars.

Reminder – This object and 3100 more are included in the Imm Deep Sky Compendium, a free planning resource to help astrophotographers find interesting targets in their night sky.  Foreign language translations in Spanish, German, Italian, Polish, and Chinese will be released soon.
